Still want to see someone use one of these as a winter beater in a really treacherous environment.

I drove mine through that crazy winter (by Hoosier standards, pretty normal for my hometown in Michigan) Indiana had a couple years ago. It was fun.

I’ve determined that the issues with my current car can be fixed inexpensively, so I’m seriously considering dropping a few hundred bucks on it to turn it into a rallycross car.

Do it! My MR2 and I challenge you in rallyX for ultimate MR 80s wedge supremacy!

I wish that I had the garage / driveway space to do that myself. I’ve been thinking about this, too. I want to do this. I already have two of them...

What issues does your car have?

I believe the transmission lockup solenoid is bad.

Shucks, forgot you had an auto. Living without lockup won’t kill anything, I don’t think. It won’t be good for mileage, but it will still drive around. Time for a 5 speed swap?

I’d be further ahead just buying one with a stick. The rear is rusted out beyond saving and it’s spreading to the passenger cell. I should probably just scrap it, but I don’t really want to.

The Formula I was looking at sold before I had a chance to go see it. Then I went and drove an FR-S and walked away wanting that more than I want another Fiero. So I’m probably just going to wait until I find a new job and use the money for a down payment on a CPO BRZ instead.

Depending on where you are, garage size storage units are pretty cheap.

I guess it’s actually the case that I have too many cars. I could drive something for every day of the week... if only they all drove.

Rust is a cruel mother. You could let it go out with a bang if you did a few things to rally it like I think I saw you mention... That could be really cool.

I just drove my car home with new stuff on it... and now in place of a Formula, I would recommend watching for one with a V6/manual and solid suspension upgrades... unless all the roads around you are awful and you like overly smooth roads. (The Toyobaru twins make me think you have decent roads, though.)

I do like those Toyobarus. I’ve sat in them and found them to be very ergonomically pleasing. I would really like to drive one.

Although... I still like learning this mid-engined life.
